The Challenge
To create a safe, fun graduation students and families would truly engage with despite the challenges the COVID-19 pandemic presented. In the discovery process with FES, we identified that the school is home to students and families of diverse backgrounds, and thus also set out to ensure equal opportunity of access to the graduation in consideration of the economic diversity within the school.
The Solution
Rather than execute an exclusive and socially distanced in person graduation, share a video slideshow, or cancel the graduation all together, we proposed a solution that increased engagement and reach. By creating a hybrid graduation, students were more engaged as they got to be a part of the solution behind the scenes, and then watch themselves in their graduation ceremony online. Streaming the graduation experience online where there were no downloads or program installs required allowed all students, faculty, and families access worldwide.
The Results
On graduation day, students, parents, faculty, and extended families tuned in seamlessly across the globe from North America, to Europe, and Oceania to participate in the school’s first ever online graduation experience. In seconds, families shared the link with close friends and family members to watch on demand and proudly shared the hybrid graduation on social media, without having to disengage from the moment to record their children themselves. Now, FES sent off their fourth grade class of 2020 in confidence having properly celebrated, reminisced, and thanked families and faculty.
